Welcome to the Southeast Steuben County Library American Dream Starts @ Your Library blog otherwise known as The American Dream Starts @ The Southeast Steuben County Library blog.
This blog will complement the materials, programs and services we’ll be offering anyone interested who is interested in improving their English language skills and/or their digital literacy skills* over the next year, Spring 2013 to Spring 2014. These programs and services will be paid for via a grant we’ve received from The American Library Association & Dollar General Foundation.
And notably, the equipment, computers, tablets and software used in American Dream programming and services were purchased via a generous grant from the Dollar General Literacy Foundation, the American Library Association (ALA) and its Office for Literacy and Outreach Services (OLOS). The grant will continue funding the American Dream Starts @ your library®, a literacy initiative for adult English language learners and their families for the next year.
* The term “digital literacy” simply means learning more about how to use technology. So if you’d like to learn more about how to use: your PC, tablet, Mac, e-reader or other tech device; Microsoft Word, PowerPoint or Excel; or more about how to access and use the library’s Digital Catalog or the library’s patrons databases, including the new Mango Languages database which will allow to either improve your English literacy skills or to learn how to speak a language other than English, our tech staff will be happy to help you!
